The league that will last just nine weeks will see four teams, the University of Nairobi Mighty Nyati, the JKUAT sparrows, the Umoja Chiefs and Juja stars, battle it out for the trophy and cash prizes that will be awarded to the winners of the league. The Samburu Cowboys will not be able to take part in the league due to the high cost of travel but they will attend the finals where they will participate in a curtain-raising friendly game.

The decision to field eight men instead of the usual eleven aside arose from a board meeting that was held to discuss the future of the sport in Kenya. The rationale behind the decision was the cost constraints of equipping a full team. it was agreed that eight men would be considerably cheaper to finance as opposed to the eleven team squad. this especially will be highly advantageous to the institutions supporting certain teams.

Strategy to expand the reach of the sport in Kenya is also underway with plans to have demonstration games in new institutions being made. in this regard, the first stops for the KFAF will be Kenyatta University and the United States International University, two institutions that have shown great interest in the game.

This drive will be aimed at increasing the number of teams in the country, grow talent and build a formidable Kenyan team eventually. This comes at a time when the KFAF has been in talks with IFAF to become a fully fledged member of the organization. The organization (KFAF) also plans to attend the IFAF congress in June.

The junior league will field players aged between 16 and 20 years. This move will create a pool from which the major league can grow while developing the sport in new institutions all over the country. Institutions and individuals interested in being part of this developing league can contact the KFAF officials or simply send their details to <kenyanfl4@gmail.com>. The federation aims at further building the sport in the country and participating in the international games that will be held in 2018.
